|Book Wrap for Renewal|
“I just…” she started. “I… I don’t know what to do.”
“I do,” I said. She turned and faced me, resting against the counter. Her face was still tear-stained and her eyes wanted to release more.
“Thank you,” she said in a small voice. I went to her and wrapped her in my arms. She clung to me like she used to do.
“I’ll get everything you need. You can get more than food stamps. There’s a lot of resources that are available to you.”
She squeezed me even tighter and whimpered, “I’m sorry.”
“For getting pregnant.”
I pulled her away from me and looked her in the face. A strand of hair had fallen into her view, so I pushed it away as a lone tear ran down her cheek.
“Don’t ever say that, Jess.” I moved to her side so she could see into the living room. Kylee sat by the window playing with a doll and singing lightly. “Don’t ever be sorry for that.”
